“Training for the Childcare Workforce” - The Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and the Award/Certificate Diploma in Playwork.


Training For You is a CACHE registered centre and is considered an innovative provider of training in both Early Years Foundation Stage and Playwork.

Cache LEVEL 3 Diploma in Playwork (QCF)


The Level 3 Diploma in Playwork is for those working or wishing to work in a senior role with children and young people between 4-16 years of ages in a variety of play environments. This course will help you to improve your knowledge and skills, undertake professional development. It allows you to work as a senior playworker.


You will learn about introduction to play and playwork, ways in which playworkers relate to, support and safeguard children and young people, the playworker's roles and responsibilities, the playworker's legal and managerial roles and responsibilities and reflective playwork in practice.


There are no formal entry qualifications for this qualification, but you must be at least eighteen years old at the date of registration and it is recommended that you have a related study course at Level 2, an adequate level of general education to cope with the demands of the programme e.g. GCSE grade C or above or equivalent a minimum of 50 hours recent experience in a playwork setting, day-to-day contact with children in a playwork setting.


The course is divided into 3 sections The Award, The Certificate and The Diploma in Playwork.


CACHE Level 3 Award in Playwork Unit 1

Unit 1 is an introduction to play and playwork and managing a playwork setting. It covers Values and professional context and key aspects of playwork practice. On completion, a Candidate will have a Level 3 Award in Playwork. This gives the learner 12 credits.


CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Playwork

On completion of Units 1-5 Candidates will gain the Level 3 Certificate in Playwork and 32 credits. Units include Understanding the Framework for Play, Understanding Relationships in the Play Environment and How to Plan and Support Self –Directed Play.


CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork

The Diploma consists of Units 1-6, covering subjects such as children’s rights and providing safe and secure play environments as a manager. The learners also choose from a number of optional units to make the credits up to 65 for the full diploma.

Cache Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF)


This new level 3 qualification is for all those who work with children delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage. This includes those working in nurseries, pre-schools, nursery or reception classes in primary schools, crèches, children’s centre staff and childminders and nannies as well as those working in social care and as foster carers.


There are 3 pathways to this course; The Early Learning and Childcare Pathway, The Social Care Pathway and the Learning and Development support Services Pathway. We will be offering the first two of these pathways initially. The course consists of units all of which have a credit value on the Qualifications Credit Framework. Applicants applying for this course should have either a relevant level 2 or long term experience of working with children, a good standard of written and spoken English is required.


Learners will attend workshops one evening a week and be allocated an assessor to support them in their workplace. All students need to complete 11 core mandatory units; those on the Early Learning and Childcare Pathway will then complete 5 occupational mandatory units amounting to 50 credits and then choose optional units to give them the full 65 credits required for a level 3. Those on the Social Care Pathway will complete 3 occupational mandatory units and then their optional units.


The course will be run on a roll on roll off basis to give learners the flexibility to start at a time to suit their needs. The course is assessed by a combination of work-based assessment and assignment course work.


Cache Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Playwork (QCF)


The Award and Certificate at level 2 provide an introduction to playwork and the playwork principles and the Diploma element of the course shows competence to work in playwork environments. It covers the knowledge and understanding from the national occupational standards and requires the learner to demonstrate the full application of this knowledge and understanding over a period of time in the workplace.


This is suitable for people working with school aged children in a variety of settings including play schemes, sports centre staff, out of school workers, holiday clubs and lunchtime supervisors. Learners must be 16 years of age and working or volunteering in a playwork setting. It covers an understanding of play and playwork and the role and responsibilities of the playworker, including health and safety issues and legal issues. Experience is gained in the classroom tutor sessions, tutorials and homework.

Cache Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Playwork (QCF) now available by distance learning!


We are delighted to announce that we have now developed a distance learning package for this course. The course will be delivered through Onefile our e-portfolio system by qualified tutors and assessors. At the end of each section an assessor will visit your workplace to assess your practice which will have been arranged in advance between you. All units are internally assessed. Assessment in the learner’s workplace will provide evidence for individual units and the whole qualification. Please see page 3 of this website or phone the office for more details.
